GPG Background & Philosophy

The Grosse Pointe Gators Swim Club (“GPG”) is a year-round competitive swim team associated with USA Swimming that offers professional coaching for swimmers of all ages and abilities. GPG believes that all individuals should have access to swimming opportunities that reflect their level of interest and ability, while developing strong friendships, contributing to the community and having fun.  All swimmers will be taught appropriate stroke technique and training based on the practice group they are placed in. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve their swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability. We are constantly growing and training young swimmers to maintain a well-rounded competitive swim team.

The GPG coaches and swimmers are a part of USA Swimming’s 500,000 member organization which is the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States. USA Swimming develops the culture of swimming by creating opportunities for swimmers and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport through clubs, events, and education.  USA Swimming is committed to providing a healthy and positive environment free from abuse for all its members.  USA Swimming’s Safe Sport program, a comprehensive abuse prevention program, consists of a multi-layered approach to keep kids safe, including: required policies and best practice guidelines; mandatory screening, including criminal background checks and employment screening; training and education; monitoring, supervision and mandatory reporting.  These measures are informed by experts in the field of child safety and are among the strongest safeguards found in youth-serving organizations.  All our coaches have access to the most comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches of any sport in the United States. This provides assurances that while the swimmers are practicing, they will receive quality instruction.

GPG, a nonprofit club, is run by its elected Parent Board of Directors which meets the first Wednesday of each month. All members are welcome at each meeting and encouraged to be involved in team activities and fundraisers. The club strives for swimmers to reach their full potential not only by teaching the skills specific to competitive swimming, but also through reinforcing strong values that apply to all facets of life; all while providing a safe environment for our members & athletes. It is our hope that GPG swimmers will develop self-confidence, self-respect, be able to set personal goals and achieve them, and understand the importance of teamwork, camaraderie, and good sportsmanship
